Three ladies, one ghost. Who really haunts Charleston, all in white? Charleston, South Carolina, is a city steeped in a history richer than sun-tea left out too long, so it is no wonder that the list of haunted locations calling it home includes a woman in white. This location first came across my desk in the form of a book, The Ghost Bridge and Other Creepy Tales of the Haunted South , and the story of the real Annabel Lee, yes, that Annabel Lee. Being a Poe lover myself, I knew I had to research this story and see what was real and what was faux Poe. (As always, I will try to rein in the jokes, puns, and general Lily-thoughts until the end, but only by so much. I do love to laugh, even when writing about ghosts.) Pocket Lore - Vintage Ouija Ads Today's pocket lore really is just for fun...or is it? Ouija boards, also known as talking boards or spirit boards, are often found at teenage slumber parties, but how harmless are they really? While we may never know, I do know I do not use them because there are some windows to the other side that I do not wish to open. The Haunting of Alexander Hostler Wilmington, North Carolina's Best-Known Buried Alive Legend Location: St. James Churchyard Cemetery, Wilmington, NC 28401 Every city, town, and village has at least one ghost story about someone being buried alive. This is the story every ghost-loving, taphephobia-having local in Wilmington, North Carolina, knows by heart - the untimely death of Samuel Jocelyn and his subsequent haunting of his best friend, Alexander Hostler. Pocket Lore - Premature Burial Signal This piece of pocket lore came across my desktop from Pinterest , which I was able to backlink to this site . And while the article itself does not appear to have a full, exact source beyond Lee St. John's site, it does seem to have had a similar publishing in at least one newspaper. (The images don't quite line up and while I don't have a newspapers.com subscription, looking at the blurred text, the headline bits don't line up, even blurry. Also, score one for being a blind nerd in thick glasses who is blurry certified.)   Pocket Lore - Newark Daily Advocate This piece of #pocketlore came across my screen via  Pinterest , and I didn't see a link to the original article in  the post  or in the Newark Daily Advocate newspapers.com archives. I am not sure if this was a real article or not, but it is an interesting one. Just as a side note, the distance between Charlotte, NC and Apex, NC is 138.9 miles per Google Maps if you walked it . This path takes you along the Uwharrie National Forest. A wild animal would be able to cover that distance, though I do not know how easy of a path it would have been.
