Pocket Lore - Black Cat Omens and Superstitions

Pocket Lore - Black Cat Omens and Superstitions This week's #pocketlore comes from a book in my personal collection, The Book of Forbidden Knowledge , and it discusses the omens and superstitions surrounding black cats. Until next time, Lore Lovers, stay spooky💖 ~Lily Listen to me read this passage on YouTube Text: THE BLACK CAT  As a rule, black cats are considered unlucky, but contrary to general belief, are supposed to bring good luck. However, to kill a black cat is unlucky and invites misfortune for a year. A black cat crossing your path denotes good luck, not bad. The meowing of a black cat at midnight is a bad omen. Various actions of cats are supposed to foretell good or unfortunate events. --- --- Join our Discord community! The Haunting of Alexander Hostler

The Haunting of Alexander Hostler Wilmington, North Carolina's Best-Known Buried Alive Legend Location: St. James Churchyard Cemetery, Wilmington, NC 28401 Every city, town, and village has at least one ghost story about someone being buried alive. This is the story every ghost-loving, taphephobia-having local in Wilmington, North Carolina, knows by heart - the untimely death of Samuel Jocelyn and his subsequent haunting of his best friend, Alexander Hostler. Preface Now, before we get into the lore, I want to give y'all a glimpse of the rabbit hole my mind has been going down with this piece and why it will be slightly different than my usual pieces. I often use Pinterest as a way to locate my Pocket Lore articles, find new locations to research, or see a word perfect for my Lily's Lore Lingo. In this case, it was "taphophila," or (per Pinterest) passion and enjoyment of cemeteries, which I could not locate on Merriam-Webster (I like solid sources, even for lingo...

Pocket Lore - Premature Burial Signal

Pocket Lore - Premature Burial Signal This piece of pocket lore came across my desktop from Pinterest , which I was able to backlink to this site . And while the article itself does not appear to have a full, exact source beyond Lee St. John's site, it does seem to have had a similar publishing in at least one newspaper. (The images don't quite line up and while I don't have a newspapers.com subscription, looking at the blurred text, the headline bits don't line up, even blurry. Also, score one for being a blind nerd in thick glasses who is blurry certified.) I dropped all my rabbit hole research at the bottom of the page, because I got a bit into it with the whole premature burial thing. And for those of you with taphephobia (fear of being buried alive) , read the rest with caution. As well as my upcoming lore piece on a local haunting. Until next time, Lore Lovers, stay spooky💖 ~Lily   Article Text: PREMATURE BURIAL SIGNAL. Device to Prevent the Possibility of Being ...

Pocket Lore - Newark Daily Advocate

Pocket Lore - Newark Daily Advocate This piece of #pocketlore came across my screen via  Pinterest , and I didn't see a link to the original article in  the post  or in the Newark Daily Advocate newspapers.com archives. I am not sure if this was a real article or not, but it is an interesting one. Just as a side note, the distance between Charlotte, NC and Apex, NC is 138.9 miles per Google Maps if you walked it . This path takes you along the Uwharrie National Forest. A wild animal would be able to cover that distance, though I do not know how easy of a path it would have been. I also do not know how they knew the animal was the one that killed the horses. But it is fun to speculate! Listen to Lily read the article The original text reads: NEWARK DAILY ADVOCATE. NEWARK, OHIO, TUESDAY, MARCH 6, 1883. RALEIGH, N. C., March 5. The appearance of an unknown animal near Aрех, N. C., has caused great excitement. The footprints are a foot long and eight inches wide. The a...

Happy July, Y’all!

Happy July, Y’all! In my little lore corner of the world, July is the rainy summer month. I can’t tell you how many afternoon storms I watched roll in over the beach or my grandparents’ farm. And with these storms, the mushrooms are always sure to follow. Happy July, y’all! 💖
