Pocket Lore - Margate, South Africa
This is a fun piece of #pocketlore I found while scrolling Pinterest regarding a fight off the coast of Margate, South Africa between two orcas and a large, unknown creature on October 25, 1924. That particular post did not link back to a site and a quick search didn't help. Oh well. Or....oh whale 😂 (please don't delete me).
Image text reads:
TODAY IN CREEPY HISTORY
25 OCTOBER 1924 MORNING - MARGATE, SOUTH AFRICA
ACCORDING TO A NEWS ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN THE DECEMBER 27, 1924, EDITION OF THE LONDON'S DAILY MAIL ENTITLED "FISH LIKE A POLAR BEAR" ON THE MORNING OF OCTOBER 25, 1924 VISITORS ON THE BEACH IN MARGATE, SOUTH AFRICA WITNESS A STRANGE SIGHT. 2 KILLER WHALES ARE SEEN BATTLING AN UTTERLY BIZARRE CREATURE, WHILE IT APPEARS TO BE A HUGE FISH OR WHALE IT'S COVERED IN SNOW WHITE FUR AND HAS A TRUNK! IT'S REPORTED AT ONE POINT DURING THE TITANIC BATTLE THE BEAST LAUNCHES ITSELF 20 FEET OUT OF THE WATER! AFTER 3 HOURS THE ELEPHANTINE CREATURE FINALLY LOSES THE FIGHT. THE NEXT DAY ITS BODY WASHES ASHORE, IT MEASURES 47 FEET (14 METERS) LONG, HAS A 5 FOOT (1.5 METER) LONG TRUNK, AND ITS FUR IS 8 INCHES LONG (20-CM). FOR 10 DAYS THE UNKNOWN BEAST SAT ROTTING ON THE BEACH, UNFORTUNATELY, THE WAVES EVENTUALLY CARRY IT BACK OUT TO SEA WHERE IT IS LOST FOREVER AND REMAINS UNIDENTIFIED.
Until next time, Lore Lovers, stay spooky💖
