Just for Fun - Tarot Card Pull - October 30, 2024

Just for Fun - Tarot Card Pull - October 30, 2024 This week's card is the Nine of Cups, from one of my favorite decks,  Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani . This deck is "inspired by deities, folklore, & fairy tales from around the world" and there is a stunning  companion lore book  that I highly recommend, whether you own the tarot deck or just want a beautiful lore book for your collection. Per the author's guidebook, the  Nine of Cups  means: * Upright: Dreams realized, fulfillment, pleasure, recognition, triumph * Reversed: Greed, devastation, pessimism, addiction, self-loathing The card art represents Taj Al-Muluk and the Princess Dunya from Arabic folklore and the guidebook has a brief overview of the scene depicted. I love that this card was pulled at the end of October and at the end of fairy tale lore here at Lily's Lore and Legends. I know I rushed through everything a bit faster than I would like, that seems to be the norm for me lately, but

Fairy Tale Lore from Around the World - Halloween 2024 Special Edition Fairy tales are wonderful things, aren't they? Adorable stories of children learning valuable life lessons while encountering cute critters who sing and evil women offering tempting treats to innocent souls. But fairy tales weren't always so movie-like with bright songs and happily never afters. They really were rather grim, even before the brothers stepped in. This year for Halloween, I'm looking at fairy tales from around the world and attempting to see where their tales originally spun themselves into the local lore. This year for Halloween, I'm looking at fairy tales from around the world and attempting to see where their tales originally spun themselves into the local lore.  For my third and final bit of lore, I decided on the favorite of a few readers - Hansel and Gretel. Hansel and Gretel Possible Origins Hansel and Gretel is a bit different than the other fairy tales we've looked at so far. Instead of having a single oral story, this one appears to a more of a patchwork of fairy tale tropes all rolled into one beautiful tale. The Grimms didn't even maintain th

This year for Halloween, I'm looking at fairy tales from around the world and attempting to see where their tales originally spun themselves into the local lore. After asking around for people's favorite tales, I decided on the interestingly delightful Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack and the Beanstalk Possible Origins Jack and the Beanstalk isn't a tale I have picked up recently, truth be told, last time I thought of it was when I watched "Once Upon a Time" but in my defense, Captain Hook was fiiiiinnnnneeeeeee af, oh wait, we aren't m

Pocket Lore - Margate, South Africa

Pocket Lore - Margate, South Africa This is a fun piece of #pocketlore I found while scrolling Pinterest regarding a fight off the coast of Margate, South Africa between two orcas and a large, unknown creature on October 25, 1924. That particular post did not link back to a site and a quick search didn't help. Oh well. Or....oh whale 😂 (please don't delete me). Image text reads:  TODAY IN CREEPY HISTORY 25 OCTOBER 1924 MORNING - MARGATE, SOUTH AFRICA ACCORDING TO A NEWS ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN THE DECEMBER 27, 1924, EDITION OF THE LONDON'S DAILY MAIL ENTITLED "FISH LIKE A POLAR BEAR" ON THE MORNING OF OCTOBER 25, 1924 VISITORS ON THE BEACH IN MARGATE, SOUTH AFRICA WITNESS A STRANGE SIGHT. 2 KILLER WHALES ARE SEEN BATTLING AN UTTERLY BIZARRE CREATURE, WHILE IT APPEARS TO BE A HUGE FISH OR WHALE IT'S COVERED IN SNOW WHITE FUR AND HAS A TRUNK! Just for Fun - Tarot Card Pull - October 23, 2024

Just for Fun - Tarot Card Pull - October 23, 2024 This week's card is actually two cards, as the first jumped out of the deck mid-shuffle, the first is the Five of Cups and the second is the Eight of Coins, from one of my favorite decks,  Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani . This deck is "inspired by deities, folklore, & fairy tales from around the world" and there is a stunning  companion lore book  I will mention below. Fairy Tale Lore from Around the World - Little Red Riding Hood

Fairy Tale Lore from Around the World - Little Red Riding Hood  Fairy tales are wonderful things, aren't they? Adorable stories of children learning valuable life lessons while encountering cute critters who sing and evil women offering tempting treats to innocent souls. But fairy tales weren't always so movie-like with bright songs and happily never afters. They really were rather grim, even before the brothers stepped in. This year for Halloween, I'm looking at fairy tales from around the world and attempting to see where their tales originally spun themselves into the local lore. And the first tale plucked out of my personal fairy tale book collection is Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red Riding Hood Possible Origins The origins of Red aren't as simple as people probably think. In fact, it's believed the oral tale that inspired the version we know today didn't even include people! But there was a wolf trying to feast on the helpless, which in this case were

YouTube Issues

YouTube Issues This was bound to happen, right? I start getting my head above water suddenly I have an issue that makes me realize I am nowhere near shore. But I got a notification that YouTube and I were permanently broken up and I had a good cry over it, when to beg them to take me back, only to find out they already had. That's embarrassing on both sides... But as a result, I realize I have a lot of friends, lore lovers, and Lore Lovers who I would greatly miss if this were to happen again and anywhere else. So please do me the biggest solid and sign up for my email list. Because while I didn't ugly cry this time, I will next time. And no one wants to see that happen. (Also, I really don't send that many emails, currently I'm at one every week or two max and you can pick your preference on alerts.)
