Ghosts of Fort Fisher - Robert Harrill AKA The Hermit of Fort Fisher

Ghosts of Fort Fisher - Robert Harrill AKA The Hermit of Fort Fisher

Robert Harrill is one of my favorite local legends. A real man who decided to run off to the dunes of Fort Fisher and live out his days as a "hermit." But as far as hermits go, it seems he was pretty popular with folks in the area.

Whether or not you believe his spirit haunts his old bunker hideout, if you met Robert before his passing in 1972, I would love to hear your story! Please click here to send me your experiences with him. (If you have encountered his ghost or other entities haunting Fort Fisher, I would love to hear those as well, please use the same link to submit those!)

I am looking primarily for first-hand experiences, but in the case of meeting Robert Harrill while he was still alive, I understand that many who met him back then have already rejoined him. With full respect, I would simply like to learn more about this local legend and how he lived.

The Legend of the Pettigrew State Park Werewolf

The Legend of the Pettigrew State Park Werewolf Location: Pettigrew State Park, Creswell NC 27928 Located next to North Carolina's second-largest natural lake, Pettigrew State Park visitors have noticed something fur-miliar watching them from the woods. Werewolf? Dogman? Were-Jason because this place, with its multiple spooky stories, definitely has Camp Crystal Lake vibes? Let's dive in (but not into Lake Phelps, it's a bit shallow). Watch The Legend of the North Carolina Pettigrew State Park Werewolf The Lore Before we get too deep into this piece, I just want to say this was supposed to be a two-day research, write in a week, back in November thing. It's February...I actually had the research and my thoughts done in December but my ranting mouth got the better of me. I needed a break to share the lore with a clear mind. So if this reads less than together between the lore, facts, and my thoughts, well, the Lily wrote the ending then was in time out before writing the...

The Legend of Sica Hollow State Park - South Dakota's Most Haunted Campground

The Legend of Sica Hollow State Park South Dakota's Most Haunted Campground An ancient god wiped out a village, leaving behind blood-red waters, eerie lights, haunting sounds, and a forest you have to be crazy to stay in overnight. But is it really haunted or just a haunting myth? Location: Sisseton, South Dakota (Map) Sica Hollow, located near Sisseton, South Dakota, is home to 900 acres of beautiful forest, trails, and Indigenous spirits. Ancient Dakota Sioux legend tells of a man who was so egotistical that he not only condemned himself to death at the hands of a god but an entire village as well. Now the waters run red with the blood of those who died, and you can still hear the echos of moans, groans, and screams as they perished. Because of this, the Dakota named the area "Sica" (pronounced "she-cha"), meaning "bad" or "evil." See my research and watch the wrap-up here! TIER 2 & 3 MEMBERS! The Haunting of Alexander Hostler

The Haunting of Alexander Hostler Wilmington, North Carolina's Best-Known Buried Alive Legend Location: St. James Churchyard Cemetery, Wilmington, NC 28401 Every city, town, and village has at least one ghost story about someone being buried alive. This is the story every ghost-loving, taphephobia-having local in Wilmington, North Carolina, knows by heart - the untimely death of Samuel Jocelyn and his subsequent haunting of his best friend, Alexander Hostler. Preface Now, before we get into the lore, I want to give y'all a glimpse of the rabbit hole my mind has been going down with this piece and why it will be slightly different than my usual pieces. I often use Pinterest as a way to locate my Pocket Lore articles, find new locations to research, or see a word perfect for my Lily's Lore Lingo. In this case, it was "taphophila," or (per Pinterest) passion and enjoyment of cemeteries, which I could not locate on Merriam-Webster (I like solid sources, even for lingo...
