February 2024 Update

February 2024 Update

I need a break. I’m barreling down the path to burnout. And burnout is something no one ever wants, so I am taking a break. Of sorts.

When I started Lily’s Lore and Legends, I wanted to have my blog and create a podcast. Clearly, the podcast got kicked out the window. But a one-off comment on Facebook led to me recording my research for a friend to watch, which then led to my wrap-ups, all of which led to me streaming, and now I am looking at having to add extra streaming days per week, and dear me, editing video takes a lot of time when it takes you ten minutes to say a ten second thought because you can’t just say a thought, you have to take the viewer fully down your thought train, which is exactly what I am doing here, but at least editing my words goes a lot faster than editing my speech, if you get what I am saying.

*Deep breath* I talk too much. But I digress.

Needless to say, I have a stack of videos I need to edit. I have a stack of half-researched lore pieces to finish. Oh, and I have a reader submission I have been sitting on since September-ish that I still need to share. And did I mention the theories and my Ghosts of Fort Fisher long-term research project that has been collecting a bit of dust? So, I need a break to catch up.

What am I taking a break from if I am working on my backlog of lovely lore? Streaming. Which sucks in its own way because I absolutely love my coffee talks with y’all and I am slowly getting closer to becoming a Twitch affiliate, but let’s just say it doesn’t feel great when everyone who watched a stream says you look exhausted afterward. And that is exactly what happened yesterday post-stream. It probably didn’t help that I was exhausted and had to spend the entire day tending to my old pupper, but it’s true, and I am exhausted.

Streaming takes A LOT out of me. I am an introvert, and being on in such a way, it takes more out of your energy than you think at first, especially as my streams are more about chatting directly with those watching and less me being focused on my screen. Plus, there is the prep beforehand; I have to pull articles, do a quickie look to make sure they don’t circle back somewhere I shouldn’t click on-stream, review notes, and get myself ready. Y’all have no idea how many times it is minutes before I hit the “Start Stream” button and I realize my outfit is not camera-appropriate. (This isn’t a big deal for some, but I really try hard to make the focus of my streams (and Lily’s Lore and Legends in general) about the lore and not about the Lily. I want my work to be seen more than I want me to be seen.) Bottomline: streaming days are crazy enough, and did I mention I still have a day job that is a top priority? Because work has definitely been kicked into overdrive too...

So, long story short, I am going to take a breather from streaming for a tiny bit, but I will still be producing content everywhere else. I am going to get my videos that need editing edited, and on the YouTubes, half-researched lore will be finished and shared, my reader submission will be submitted to y’all, and the dear ghosties at Fort Fisher can tell me a bit about their haunting ways. (Monthly members have full access to my Fort Fisher project and notes.) We are still hanging out on Discord, and yes, it’s free to join, so please do and let’s get weird over there! I am going to get better overall about being on my Lily’s Lore socials and interacting more with y’all that way. And I am going to hopefully get more of my personal writing tackled with a few chapters finished in my book and my word stash destashed a bit.

This break from streaming is only going to last a few weeks. My plan is to be back live and on your Twitchy screens by March. I’m going to have all my socials below, as well as links to join my monthly membership, shop my library (which I am in the process of adding to as well), and generally where to find me online.

  1. It's a good thing you're seeing the signs before it's a bigger issue. Burnout sucks. And you're writing is the point anyway.

The Legend of Zombie Road

The Legend of Zombie Road Ghost Children, Indigenous American Burial Grounds, Train Accidents, Serial Killers, and a Screaming Old Ghost Lady? Sign me up! Location: Wildwood, St. Louis County, Missouri With reports of ghost children, orbs, serial killers, Indigenous American ghosts, zombies (?!?!), and more, Zombie Road AKA Rock Hollow Trail, located in Wildwood, MO (in St. Louis County), is considered one of the most haunted roads in America...but is it? The Lore Reports of paranormal activity on Zombie Road vary from experience to experience. Some people hear footsteps following them, there are reports of rocks being thrown, orbs caught on camera and seen firsthand by people, shadow people, and so much more. And because of all these reports, it’s easy to see why people consider it one of the most haunted roads in the United States. As there are a lot of reports and origin stories dating back to the 1800s, not to mention the location has a dozen names or so, I will try my best to orga...

The Legend of the Siren of the French Broad River

The Legend of the Siren of the French Broad River Alluring Cherokee Cryptid or Just a Bunch of Babble? Location: Asheville, North Carolina Both a well-known and seemingly obscure legend, the Siren of the French Broad River is considered a Cherokee legend and has been making the rounds with non-Cherokee locals since 1845. Watch my research process and wrap-up videos here. The Lore Along the French Broad River, just east of Asheville, NC, weary male travelers have reported hearing a beautiful song and seeing a woman beckoning them from the water. If they are not careful, they fall into her arms and are pulled under the waters of the river, never to be seen again. In some tellings, the man falls victim immediately while in others, the siren visits him in his dreams over the course of 3 nights before luring him into the icy waters of the river. The Legend of Sica Hollow State Park - South Dakota's Most Haunted Campground

The Legend of Sica Hollow State Park South Dakota's Most Haunted Campground An ancient god wiped out a village, leaving behind blood-red waters, eerie lights, haunting sounds, and a forest you have to be crazy to stay in overnight. But is it really haunted or just a haunting myth? Location: Sisseton, South Dakota (Map) Sica Hollow, located near Sisseton, South Dakota, is home to 900 acres of beautiful forest, trails, and Indigenous spirits. Ancient Dakota Sioux legend tells of a man who was so egotistical that he not only condemned himself to death at the hands of a god but an entire village as well. Now the waters run red with the blood of those who died, and you can still hear the echos of moans, groans, and screams as they perished. Because of this, the Dakota named the area "Sica" (pronounced "she-cha"), meaning "bad" or "evil." See my research and watch the wrap-up here! TIER 2 & 3 MEMBERS!
